Visiting the Fagradalsfjal eruption on a Iceland Trip

Many of our clients are looking for something longer than a short 3-4 night short break and are wanting to explore more of what Iceland has to offer. This is especially true for our overseas guests who have travelled further from America or Australia and are looking for something a little more complete in order to experience more variety of arctic activities and/or landscapes as well as the Aurora Borealis.

Needless to say the Northern Lights are not on a light-switch, (I wish they were as it would make our life a lot easier!), and of course the longer you stay the higher chance you have of seeing the Northern Lights so that is a benefit as well of going on a more extended Aurora Holiday.

We specialize in complex itineraries piecing together different destinations and as a result offer exceptional journeys combining North and South Iceland as well as Iceland combined with either or both Sweden and Norway. In all cases we still focus on personalized itineraries designed for you with activities that have a small number of people. This ensures that the quality of the guide interaction and accommodation is maintained whichever country you are in on your Northern Lights Trip.

With Iceland Air offering a free 7 night stopover in Iceland on the way from America to Sweden on a Northern Lights trip this has become logistically much easier and better value. Norway can easily be combined with Sweden to extend even further. The diversity of scenery, activities and possibilities to see the Northern Lights is expanded dramatically as a result. You could see the northern lights by boat out at sea, over mountains, forests, glaciers, waterfalls, geysers and even whilst swimming in volcanic geothermal baths. It would be fair to say you will not get bored of the Northern Lights!

We have amazing feedback on the Northern Lights Extravaganza in Iceland and Abisko break which combines Iceland and Sweden. On this extended Arctic trip you really will experience the wilderness of both countries whilst staying in your own private boutique cabin in Iceland in the area we call “Northern Lights Alley”, together with a 3 night stay in Abisko, considered the “Northern Lights capital of Europe”. You have a superb chance of seeing the Northern Lights as well as having a wonderfully varied trip combining husky sledding, snowmobile safaris and a guided northern lights photographic evening. Superjeep tours will climb up volcanoes, take you to erupting Geysers and Glaciers and explore the inner Highlands with its lava fields and stunning volcanic shapes. There will be time for you to take a swim in the geothermal Blue Lagoon and stay in Reykjavik Iceland’s vibrant capital as well as enjoy a 1 night stay at the ABBA owned Rival in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. To crown off the trip spend a night in the original ICEHOTEL in Sweden now in its 30th edition and built  by a new team of artists each year.

Many people have been confused by the James Bond film “Die another day” which has the IceHotel in Iceland – infact it is in Sweden! Don’t despair as The Ultimate Ice Hotel and Aurora Adventure is the perfect break for combing a Northern lights trip to Iceland and Sweden and overnight at the Ice Hotel. We would always recommend you stay in an individually themed Art Suite but you have the chance to wander around the whole complex during the day and see all of the incredible Art Suites, Ice Bar and Chapel. Every year new room designs are created at the Ice Hotel and you never know what inspiration this year will bring. Its worth saying that the northern lights are often seen from the vantage point of the ICEHOTEL.

For those who want an even longer Northern lights Holiday then the 10 night Iceland, Norway and Sweden Aurora Bonanza is the ultimate journey and combines Tromso and Narvik in Norway to Sweden and Iceland. Norway was made famous over ten years ago by Joanna Lumley when she visited in search of the Northern Lights resulting in the concept of Aurora Trips being put on the map. In Norway, and en route to Abisko in Sweden, you will visit the Polar Park in Norway to see Moose, Lynx, Wolves, Musk and even the chance of a bear sighting. This Northern Lights break really is as complete as it gets as also includes husky sledding, snowmobiling, superjeep tours, northern light hunts as well as northern lights photography workshops and a trip to the Aurora Sky Station in Abisko.

If you are looking for an extended stay in Iceland then the Ultimate North and South Iceland Encounter will tickle your fancy in the winter with transfers and great superjeep tours throughout. The 6 night Iceland Autumn Aurora Indulgence is a wonderful northern lights holiday option for the autumn months (though the season is limited as we would not recommend self-driving in the North of Iceland in the winter as the seasonal weather can be much more extreme than in the South of Iceland).

The Iceland Husky Sledding Aurora Adventure is a super 5 night break mainly in the North of Iceland, but with the Golden Circle from Reykjavik thrown in as well to ensure you don’t miss the Geyser, mini rift valley and impressive Gullfoss Waterfall. As you need to wait till there is enough snow on the ground for the husky sledding this is only available from Dec onwards. We have had lovely feedback on how intimate the husky sledding adventure is with only 4 people taken out at any one time and often you are invited back to the owner’s home afterwards to help settle the huskies back after the journey. The North of Iceland is increasingly of interest with its wide areas open for Aurora watching, less tourists and spectacular volcanic scenery.
