The Icehotel is truly a unique and magical experience. Located 200km north of the Arctic Circle in Swedish Lapland, the hotel is built entirely from ice and snow, and has been re-built this way every winter since 1989. Every year when the winter comes, the pristine waters of the nearby Torne River slow down and freeze, allowing blocks to be harvested and sculpted to create this iconic Swedish landmark.
Using 500 tonnes of ice, it takes just six weeks to build this incredible structure which houses new, breathtaking art suite designs each year by numerous artists from all around the world. This is not just a hotel, this is an art exhibition.
Icehotel 34 opened its doors on December 15th, featuring 35 art suites and ice rooms kept at a cool -5 degrees celcius. Experience a night sleeping on ice, and enjoy meandering through the numerous art suites when they are open for guests to view, before enjoying a cocktail in the Ice Bar.
While the art is at the heart of the Icehotel experience, there is certainly a lot more on offer. Fill your days with exciting activities like husky sledding, snowmobiling, ice fishing and try creating your own ice sculpture. Enjoy the delicious food in one of the three restaurants, or opt for a special Starlit Wilderness Dinner or 12-course Chef’s Table upgrade for a truly memorable dining experience. Top it all off with a chance to see the northern lights dance overhead, painting incredible colours over the crystal waters of the frozen river and the snow-dusted trees.
