Day by Day Itinerary
After arriving in Rovaniemi pick up your shared transfer to Iso-Syote and check in to the Arctic Hilltop Boutique Hotel. This particular itinerary is based on an Aurora View Suite but there are also the options of some upgrade suites or the more rustic Kelo Cottages!
Spend the evening relaxing and enjoying your new surroundings – perhaps even spotting some aurora from your balcony, in the hot tub!
This morning you will be transferred to a husky farm where you get to meet some very eager dogs. Here you will be introduced to the team and briefed before embarking on a husky sledge ride.
The safari route is a winter wonderland, winding through snowy forests and skimming across ice-covered lakes that glisten like diamonds under the Arctic sun. Along the way, pit stops offer the chance to switch drivers, ensuring everyone can command these furry speedsters while creating picture-perfect moments amidst this breathtaking landscape. Don’t forget your camera – those huskies and the stunning surroundings practically beg to be captured in all their snowy glory!
Then an evening snowmobile safari brings in a unique thrill as you speed through snowy forests and across the fells under the twinkling stars. Pausing along the way, you’re treated to star-gazing moments and keeping a keen eye out for the aurora. A cosy coffee break awaits by a crackling campfire, adding warmth to the adventure. And if luck is on your side, the elusive Northern Lights might make a dazzling appearance, turning this already magical journey into an unforgettable spectacle.
Today’s adventure kicks off right from the hotel, where a row of snowmobiles awaits eager riders. The thrilling track leads downhill, then winds its way through snow-laden forests, skirting ice-covered swamps and lakes. Along the journey, a delightful pause is made for a fireside coffee break, adding a cosy touch to the snowy escapade. With refreshed spirits, it’s back on the snowmobiles, this time revving up for the exhilarating ascent back up the Iso Syöte hill, concluding the expedition with an adrenaline-fueled ride.
After the thrilling adventure of exploring the wintry landscapes, returning to the hotel is a welcoming sight. The cosy confines offer a perfect sanctuary to unwind and thaw out from the exhilarating ride. You have the option to indulge in the luxurious spa facilities, letting the warmth of the sauna or a pampering massage melt away any lingering cold. Otherwise, you can enjoy a soak in the hot tub and a sauna back in your room – a perfect way to end a day of adventure, soothing both body and soul in the lap of luxury.
Your Aurora View Suite will again become your perfect spot for looking out for the Northern Lights.
As your final morning at the property approaches, consider whether you’d like to go on another excursion or simply take some time to relax. My wife and I had an awesome and memorable trip to Iceland thanks to Alex at Aurora Nights. Alex tailored the itinerary to exactly what we wanted to see and chose excellent hotels to stay at. We totally enjoyed the city of Reykjavik and the many beautiful waterfalls. He went above and beyond to not only recommend sights to see around the Golden Circle and Ring Road, but also mapped it out so we were prepared to drive through the country during unpredictable weather and road conditions. And we were especially pleased to see the Northern Lights on our visit. Alex was very flexible to make changes to our plans and choosing the wonderful Sky Lagoon to replace our tickets for the Blue Lagoon due to the closure from the volcanic activity. We highly recommend Alex and Aurora Nights.
I appreciate the fast response to my inquiries regarding my trip. It would take decision making faster on my part, and plan my itinerary and activities being offered by the company accordingly.
We had the most fabulous time and everything worked like clockwork. The guides were extremely knowledgeable and extremely competent. The food was excellent and the experiences, especially Husky Homes, were brilliant. We saw the aurora lights at the mountain top in Abisko where the photography tour will be an enduring memory of a wonderful time. I would very much recommend Weekend a la Carte as a proficient tour operator.
This vacation has without without doubt, has been the best experience we have ever had. The organisation from the minute we landed in Kiruna until we departed at the close of our trip was second to none. The transition between hotels was always seamless and punctual. Everywhere we stayed was beautifully clean and the meals were top quality. Every driver was polite, entertaining and very knowledgeable, furnishing us with invaluable information about Sweden and the activities in which we were to participate. The snowmobiling was wonderful giving access via our guide, to stunning panoramic views of the mountain whilst viewing reindeer in their natural habitat.
Our guide demonstrated how to use the snowmobile safely he was pleasant and informative. When visiting the reindeer on the Sami reservation; we found the brother and sister team who hosted lovely. Again they were so hospitable and helpful and feeding the reindeer up close was a wonderful experience.
They provided additional activities for us to try and we were treated to a traditional Sami lunch in their hut. They provided us with invaluable information appertaining to their culture and caring for their reindeer. The reindeer were in superb condition and happy in their environment. Similarly, when out with the dog sleds the experience was magical. Two hours of beautiful scenery, and frozen lakes, finishing with a one-on-one experience massaging the dogs. Magic! We were so impressed with the care that was placed upon ensuring the dogs were comfortable, well-nourished and so loved by their owners/handlers.
Now to the photographic experience. A large group of us were treated to a demonstration of how to operate some serious camera equipment with tripod. Each of us was loaned the camera and given assistance setting up the camera on a frozen lake in preparation for the appearance of the Northern Lights. We were taken to this lake on large wooden sleighs pulled by a snowmobile. We cannot speak too highly of the two young men who accompanied us on this experience. They could not do enough for us. They were there to offer assistance with our cameras throughout the two-plus hours we were on this beautiful lake.
They advised where to position the camera and when the Lights appeared, what a performance. We had a two-hour display of this most breathtaking phenomenon. We were so fortunate to be able to experience this once-in-a-lifetime occurrence for which we are so grateful. We will never forget this memorable holiday and cannot thank you and everyone who assisted in making a lifetime dream come true. Karen & Andrew Adamson
We enjoyed both the hotels that were arranged by weekend a la Carte Aurora nights. The Porsmork trip was very enjoyable, both guides were fantastic and informative.
The Northern Light hunt trip out of Reykjavik with Superjeep was an adventure and we got to see the lights, worth braving the cold at -6.
My daughter and I had an amazing time on our trip, we didn’t want it to end! Everything went according to plan, each excursion was well organized and everyone involved with each activity, as well as everyone at the lodge was kind, friendly, positive and happy, which makes such a difference to your whole experience. The food at The Abisko Mountain Lodge was also incredibly good. Our room was large, comfortable and well-furnished. The bathroom too was also spacious and well-equipped. The outdoor clothing provided was of very good quality which kept us warm, and the staff members are happy to change items if they are not quite the right size for you. This is my second trip with Weekend a la carte and I’m sure there will be more as I have complete trust in them. I highly recommend Aurora Nights, it was fabulous.
Brilliant short break. Hotel Ranga was lovely, excellent food. Managed to see the Northern Lights as well! Iceland on the whole was quite expensive but a lovely place to visit, the people were very friendly.
We had a wonderful time! The food at the lodge was amazing and there were some great vegetarian dishes. I had the best beetroot I’ve ever had (beetroot tartare).
Everyone was really friendly and all the guides were good fun and very knowledgeable.
A special thanks to William and Petri who were really friendly and really added a personal touch to our trip. The activities were really well planned and we especially enjoyed the trip with the huskies. The area we were in is stunning and the lodge was very nice. We would definitely recommend this to friends and family.
