Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival and Northern Lights Hunt
This wonderful Lodge situated with far reaching views towards the Abisko Alps is the perfect base for a short break. With only seven rooms it has a ‘home away from home’ feel and has excellent activities right from the doorstep.
Mikko and his family will be your hosts and guides and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. They will run through your itinerary and will act as your point of reference.
You will also have complimentary warm weather clothing issued to you for the whole of your stay at the lodge. Your evening begins around the fire in the teepee next to the lodge.
After enjoying a good BBQ meal you’ll hit the road in a warm and comfortable minivan that will drive you along quiet roads around Lapland to the very best viewing points to experience the magical Northern Lights.
Day 2
Sami and Reindeer Experience & Northern Lights Chase
Whilst you are in Lapland, you will visit Håkan, at a Sami village and experience the traditional lifestyle of the Sami people.
Includes lunch by the crackling fire and a short sleigh ride with the reindeer in the wintry countryside. Then a magical evening at the lodge with dinner in the tipi located outside the beautiful Lodge Máttaráhkka.
Experience the Northern Lights in Lapland from the top of Mt. Ednamvarri with 360-degree views.
Enjoy a magical evening at the lodge with dinner in the teepee located outside the beautiful Lodge Máttaráhkka. When the time is right we will take the snowmobiles to the top of Mt. Ednavaara which offers a great view over the mountain range away from the light pollution. Your guide will take pictures throughout the entire evening so you have photographs to cherish, without missing anything!
Day 3
Dog Sledding and Hot Tub
After breakfast you will head out with a team of huskies – the guides will share their passion for the way of life as a musher in the Arctic and you as a guest will experience their way of life in this winter wonderland with spectacular views and meeting wildlife along the way.
In the evening enjoy a relaxing soak in the hot tub before sitting down to a lovely three-course dinner.
Day 4
Snowmobile Adventure
Enjoy a half-day exhilarating snowmobile safari cruising around the forests and frozen lakes of Lapland by snowmobile
As the only company in Kiruna, we offer day trips by snowmobile that take you to the edge of the Arctic tundra and up above the tree line to Lapland viewpoint which offers an amazing view over a spectacular Arctic wilderness. We take a short break on a frozen lake where we brew some coffee over the crackling fire and enjoy some Swedish Fika; here you also have the chance to try out some traditional ice fishing.
Back at the lodge, you will be treated to a local 2-course lunch.
Day 5
Airport Transfer and Flight Home
Enjoy breakfast before your airport transfer.

Máttaráhkká Northern Lights Lodge
We are proud to offer this small intimate lodge, run by one of our long standing partners, Andreas Mikko.
This 7 room intimate lodge is situated in a super location on a slight elevation with magnificent views across the arctic tundra to the Abisko alps. The emphasis at the lodge is on two elements, Sami culture and ensuring you have the best chance of seeing the northern lights.
This small intimate lodge used to be a Sami handicraft centre until the owners had the idea to turn it into an exclusive retreat. With only 7 bedrooms and an open plan lounge and dining room, the emphasis is on relaxing in a cosy environment. The rooms have a downstairs en-suite room with a staircase leading to a loft sitting room.
If you are a group of 8 or more friends or family traveling together and wish to have the lodge privately please let us know. This is a great way of celebrating a big birthday or wedding anniversary
The lodge has a fabulous sauna and a very unusual northern lights hot tub on the roof where you can star gaze or hunt for the Aurora. (This carries an extra charge).
Other benefits of a stay here mean that you can snowmobile straight from your doorstep into the Arctic wilderness.

An excellent holiday which was enjoyed by all. The super jeep ride on the second day to the Eyjafjallajokull volcano was memorable and thanks to our driver Margaret who proved to be a really good guide. We thoroughly enjoyed the facilities in the hotel Ranga. The staff were very helpful and we managed to see the Northern Lights. The Hotel Reykjavik Centrum was very nice with amazingly helpful staff. All in all, the whole holiday was brilliant.

Their provision of winter kit (hats, down jacket, snow trousers, leather gloves and boots) offered everything we needed to be comfortable outside. All we needed to have packed really were base layers, a few layers of clothing and woollen socks. Defintely somewhere we would highly recommend and return to when possible!

We had a wonderful time! The food at the lodge was amazing and there were some great vegetarian dishes. I had the best beetroot I’ve ever had (beetroot tartare).
Everyone was really friendly and all the guides were good fun and very knowledgeable.
A special thanks to William and Petri who were really friendly and really added a personal touch to our trip. The activities were really well planned and we especially enjoyed the trip with the huskies. The area we were in is stunning and the lodge was very nice. He went above and beyond to not only recommend sights to see around the Golden Circle and Ring Road, but also mapped it out so we were prepared to drive through the country during unpredictable weather and road conditions. Alex was very flexible to make changes to our plans and choosing the wonderful Sky Lagoon to replace our tickets for the Blue Lagoon due to the closure from the volcanic activity.
