Day by Day Itinerary
Arrive at the Tree Hotel
Fly to Lulea in Swedish Lapland, where you will be met and transferred to Harads, a small hamlet, home to the now iconic Tree Hotel.
The idea of creating a treehouse hotel was conceived by our close partner and friend Kent Lindvall whilst on a fishing trip in the depths of the Russian wilderness. What he and his wife Britta have created is truly unique and continually attracts the attention of style magazines and architects from around the world.
The Tree hotel comprises 8 unique themed Tree Rooms. These are the Mirrorcube, Bird’s Nest, Cabin, Blue Cone, Dragonfly, UFO, the 7th room and the new Biopshere – all nestled in pine trees in a boreal forest.
We offer our clients the ability to stay in two different rooms on separate nights during your stay. Popular combinations are the Cabin and Birds Nest and the Mirrorcube and UFO!
After settling in, enjoy a three-course dinner in the restaurant before escaping to your home in the trees for the night!
Forest Snowmobile Safari. Overnight in Tree Hotel.
Have a leisurely breakfast prior to embarking on a 2.5 hour snowmobile adventure through the pristine wilderness around the Tree Hotel. You will stop for a Swedish fika break at the mid-way point. It is an exhilarating feeling being away from it all surrounded by snow-laden trees and commanding views. Enjoy lunch back at the lodge.
This evening back at The Tree Hotel enjoy the wholesome cooking served in the Restaurant. If you are celebrating a special occasion or want to do something romantic or memorable, consider the Dining on Ice experience where you enjoy a gourmet dinner served in a candlelit tepee.
You have the option of staying in the same tree cabin, or moving and trying an alternative room. The Northern Lights are frequently spotted around this area so if they are out its worth finding a private viewing spot to enjoy the show – the perfect after-dinner entertainment!
Arctic Circle Train to the Icehotel
After breakfast, your guide will take you to Boden Train Station to catch the train to Kiruna on the western side of Swedish Lapland. This 4-hour journey crosses the Arctic Circle and gives you a great chance to see one of the last expanses of wilderness in Europe. On arrival in Kiruna you will meet your guide who will transfer you to the Icehotel for check in. Take the tour of both the temporary Icehotel and the permanent Icehotel 365, and marvel at the feat of engineering that allows these structures to exist. For more than 30 years, the Icehotel has attracted clients from all over the world to enjoy its unique designer art suites, get married in the chapel, or simply enjoy a cocktail at the cool Ice Bar.
Unlike most operators, we offer art suites as standard in all of our itineraries as we believe that they enhance your stay and let you appreciate this unique experience to the full.
Dog Sledding Adventure
After breakfast you can get prepared for your day trip out dog sledding and learning how to mush. Here you will also stop at the kennels to meet all the dogs and have some lunch. When you get back to the Icehotel you will be able to check into your warm accommodation for the evening, so take some time to relax and have a hot shower after all the activities. Then get ready for your next adventure – a Northern Lights Wilderness Dinner. Here you will meet with your guide and get taken to a cabin for a delicious meal prepared for your group, while you learn about the Northern Lights – and maybe even get to see them!
After breakfast you have a little time at your leisure before your guide will pick you up from the Icehotel and transfer you to the airport for your flight home. Alternatively why not include a stopover in Sweden’s capital city, Stockholm?
Where You'll Stay
The Treehotel
Dreamt up on a fishing trip in Kamchatka, Russia, but part of a living Boreal forest in Swedish Lapland, this is a hotel with a difference!
The Treehotel comprises 7 unique themed Tree Rooms, created by 7 separate architects. These are the Mirrorcube, Bird’s Nest, Cabin, Blue Cone, dragon fly, UFO and 7th Room!
In addition there is a sauna and relaxation area and nearby is the Brittas Pensionat where meals are served.
The rooms are set between 4-6 meters from the ground in pine trees and rooms are accessed by either a ramp or sturdy stairs. They can house between 2 and 4 people and the larger rooms, The Dragonfly and the 7th Room, have separate bedrooms.
Every Tree Room has its own living and sleeping area and is equipped with a state of the art eco-friendly incineration toilet and water efficient hand basin, which means there is no artificial plumbing.
The emphasis is on running the hotel consistent with values of low impact on the surrounding forest and every aspect of the operation compliments this aim.
The Original ICEHOTEL - Swedish Lapland
The Original ICEHOTEL is situated in Jukassjarvi Swedish Lapland and is a feat of engineering and artistic creation. We recommend staying in an Art Suite to appreciate the full ICEHOTEL experience and our itineraries feature these rooms as standard. They cost a little more but add hugely to your appreciation of this Once in a Lifetime experience.
The ICEHOTEL consists of 2 structures – the temporary hotel is rebuilt each year from blocks of ice harvested from the Torne river which runs adjacent to the IceHotel. These blocks are stored for the summer in a huge warehouse and as the late Autumn temperature in Jukkasjärvi drops below zero ice artists arrive from all over the world to build this magnificent creation. They build the 4 levels of rooms, the ice chapel and the ice bar. Their art is created with imagination and hard work, only to melt away under the unforgiving rays of the spring sun.
The new ICEHOTEL 365 is a permanent ICEHOTEL and a feat of engineering which offers visitors the chance of staying the whole year round. It houses both Art suites and the Deluxe Art Suites (which we offer as an upgrade) with their luxury en suite bathrooms. It is also home to the celebrated ICEBAR.
You have your own private locker room where you can change and leave your bags whilst having access to the adjacent service block where there are saunas, toilets and showers.
Wake up to a hot Lingonberry juice served in your room prior to the very substantial ICEHOTEL breakfast served in the main restaurant.
For Dinner the ICEHOTEL has 2 restaurants, one serving gourmet food, whilst the more informal Homestead restaurant serves hearty traditional food.

Brilliant short break. Hotel Ranga was lovely, excellent food. Managed to see the Northern Lights as well! Iceland on the whole was quite expensive but a lovely place to visit, the people were very friendly.
Dear Abigail, We have safely returned from Iceland and we wanted to say a huge and sincere thank you for all the plans that you put into place to make this one of the most memorable holidays we have ever had. It was simply beautiful each and every day. The cabin was idyllic and so cosy and warm. The tour guides were so knowledgeable and friendly and the scenery was breathtaking. All the arrangements worked so well and we will remember the trip for a long time to come.
Thank you once again.
Fantastic trip with great hosts & made even more special by seeing the Northern Lights twice!!
My wife and I had an awesome and memorable trip to Iceland thanks to Alex at Aurora Nights. Alex tailored the itinerary to exactly what we wanted to see and chose excellent hotels to stay at. We totally enjoyed the city of Reykjavik and the many beautiful waterfalls. He went above and beyond to not only recommend sights to see around the Golden Circle and Ring Road, but also mapped it out so we were prepared to drive through the country during unpredictable weather and road conditions. And we were especially pleased to see the Northern Lights on our visit. Alex was very flexible to make changes to our plans and choosing the wonderful Sky Lagoon to replace our tickets for the Blue Lagoon due to the closure from the volcanic activity. We highly recommend Alex and Aurora Nights.
We had a fantastic 4 nights that included glaciers, waterfalls, geysers, the aurora borealis and more! Lovely hotels, especially Hotel Ranga. We filled every moment and felt thoroughly invigorated on our return.
We had five fantastic days in beautiful Iceland, as we had never been before Aurora Nights helped with everything and made the holiday so easy and stress free. We stayed at Hotel Ranga which was amazing, we very much enjoyed the tours and the guides were brilliant, very knowledgable and friendly. We will certainly be returning to Iceland and wouldn’t hesitate to book through Aurora Nights again, special thanks to Abigail as her experience and reccommendations made the trip even better.
This was a bucket list trip. The company are specialists and I’ve valued their advice. Everything from the when to go for the best opportunity to see the lights and equipment needed and provided. Our activities included, the Ice Hotel, night photo shoot, snowmobiling, guided walk and the sky station meal. All excellent and well run by knowledgeable experts and guides. The Abisko Lodge is warm comfortable and relaxing the food is excellent and the staff welcoming, friendly and very helpful. I would highly recommend if you’re looking for a different and exciting experience.
Thank you for arranging a fabulous holiday, we had a really enjoyable time and would love to return in the future. Hotel Ranga is a lovely place to stay and the owner greeted guests in the restaurant, which was an unexpected welcoming touch. We didn’t see the Northern Lights due to the weather and the trip to the Eyjafjallajokull glacier and volcano was substituted by an excursion to Thorsmork, also due to the weather, which we thoroughly enjoyed; the brochure description doesn’t do it justice. We found Iceland and the people there really charismatic. Although the wind and snow cut short the amount of travelling we could do, we still covered a reasonable amount of what we wanted to see and our appetites are whetted for a return, perhaps in Spring or Summer. We found a couple of great places to eat near the Hotel in Reykjavik. Messin does tasty fish dishes and the Icelandic Street Food restaurant was excellent, offering simple but hearty soups with refills included in the price – great value.
