Frequently asked questions

Why choose an exclusive Northern Lights holiday in Sweden?

These luxury Northern Lights holidays in Sweden are tailor-made for you. Whatever the occasion, whoever you’re travelling with, and whatever is on your holiday bucket list, we’ll plan a trip that exceeds your expectations.

Private transfers and tours. Luxurious accommodation. Exclusive use of hotels and lodges. Little extras like a birthday cake or a private dinner. Every day and every activity designed around you and your interests.

Want to climb a frozen waterfall? Or try your hand at ice fishing? Enjoy a bird’s eye view of the Arctic from a hot air balloon? Or explore the sparkling waterways and vibrant culture of Stockholm? It’s all possible on a Sweden Northern Lights holiday.

What can I see and do on an exclusive Northern Lights holiday in Sweden?

Depending on the time of year you visit, you can enjoy a selection of the following activities. Most are available as private tours or experiences — so it feels like you have the Arctic all to yourself.

  • Sample Swedish cuisine on a romantic aurora wilderness dinner, out on a frozen lake with the starlit sky and the aurora borealis above.
  • Get up close with Arctic animals. Learn the art of mushing on a dog sledding adventure, go on a moose safari and take a reindeer sleigh ride through snowy landscapes.
  • Enjoy the exhilarating experience of ice climbing on a frozen waterfall. Or get creative at an ice sculpting class.
  • Go snowshoeing or cross country-skiing, right from the door of your lodge.
  • Embark on snowmobile adventures. Venture above the treeline and onto the Arctic tundra. Or head up to the top of Mount Ednamvarri for breathtaking views of the aurora borealis.
  • Go on a Northern Lights photography course. Get all the kit and expert guidance you need to take beautiful photographs of the Northern Lights as they dance across the sky.
  • Warm up after winter activities in your private hot tub under the stars. Savour Swedish sauna culture. Or treat yourself to a relaxing Swedish massage.
  • Visit the famous Icehotel for a cocktail at the Ice Bar. Or — for a truly mesmerising experience — stay in the night in a spectacular Ice Suite.
  • Experience Sámi hospitality. Gather around the tipi fire to eat a traditional meal while learning about Sámi history and culture.

Tell us which of these activities (or any others) you’d like to experience on your luxury holiday to Sweden and we’ll work them into your itinerary.

Where will I stay?

We have exceptional accommodation options in Lulea, Kiruna, Abisko, Stockholm and deep in the Arctic wilderness.

You can stay in remote luxury lodges, log cabins and yurts, with their own saunas and outdoor hot tubs. For groups of family and friends, we can arrange exclusive use of our lodges. With the place to yourself, you can relax together in the lounge, by a roaring log fire, after a day of exciting outdoor adventures.

We can also book you into a deluxe Art Suite at the Icehotel or into a treetop room at the Tree Hotel for a truly spectacular stay.

Can I customise my Northern Lights holiday?

Absolutely. The tours listed above are a jumping-off point. We can tailor these tours to include the destinations, activities and accommodation you want to experience.

We can also extend your northern lights holiday in Swedish Lapland so you get to spend time in our other
Nordic destinations:

When is the best time to book a holiday in Sweden?

That all depends on what you want to see and do while you’re there.

The northern lights are visible in Swedish Lapland any time from September to March. And autumn and winter seasons have their own unique appeal.

In September and October, autumn colours blaze across the landscape. From November to March, snow and ice turn northern Sweden into a winter wonderland.

We can plan a northern lights holiday in Sweden to coincide with Christmas or New Year celebrations. It’s also possible to book a family aurora trip during the February half-term holidays.

Just bear in mind that — if you’re travelling with a large group and want exclusive use of a Northern Lights lodge — you need to book around a year in advance.

If you’re unsure when to book your luxury Sweden trip, just get in touch with the Aurora Nights team for advice.

What do your luxury holidays in Sweden include?

  • Accommodation
  • Private airport transfers
  • Your choice of private tours and activities
  • Breakfast, half-board or full-board dining (depending on your preference)

Can you guarantee that I’ll see the Northern Lights?

Unfortunately not. But we do everything we can to maximise your chances of seeing the Aurora on your Northern Lights holiday in Sweden.

You’ll stay in luxury accommodation in the Swedish wilderness — places in the far north with low levels of light pollution. Many of our lodges and cabins boast glass roofs or panoramic windows, so it’s easy to see the Northern Lights when they make an appearance.
