Finland log cabin holidays: FAQS
When is the best time of year to book a log cabin holiday in Finland?
The northern lights are visible in Finnish Lapland from September to March. But you have the best chance of seeing the aurora borealis if you plan a log cabin holiday in winter.
Travel to Finland between December and March and the nights are long. This makes aurora sightings more likely. You also get to see Finland blanketed in snow, which means you can enjoy lots of exciting winter activities.
Still unsure when to book your log cabin holiday in Finland? Just get in touch with the Aurora Nights team and we’ll recommend the best month to visit.

Can I book a Finnish log cabin for Christmas?
Yes, you can. There’s something truly magical about staying in a snowy log cabin during the festive season. Glittering snow, outdoor adventures and a roaring fire to greet you back at your cabin.
It’s also a great time to plan a family log cabin holiday. Because when you book a log cabin for Christmas (or in the months running up to it), you can take a trip to see Santa.
You’ll take a reindeer sleigh ride through a snowy forest. Meet Santa’s playful elves, who’ll entertain you along the way. Then, enjoy a private meeting with Santa Claus and receive a special gift for every child.
How many people does a Lapland log cabin sleep?
We have lots of log cabins available, ranging from two to seven beds.
We have spacious log cabins for couples, compact cabins in the style of shepherds’ huts and self-catering log cabins with space for up to two families.
If you’re travelling as a larger group and would like to stay together, just contact the Aurora Nights team to talk through your options.
What amenities do log cabins in Lapland have?
All our log cabins in Finnish Lapland feature a private sauna, a bathroom, and tea and coffee-making facilities. They have a cosy, wood-walled interior, with charming, rustic details.
Some log cabins and lodges feature a lounge and kitchen. Some have a wood-burning stove. Others have their own hot tub on the terrace, with panoramic views over the frozen landscape.
What’s included in a Finland log cabin package?
Our log cabin holidays in Finland include the following:
- Accommodation
- Airport transfers (private transfers can be arranged)

What can you see and do on winter log cabin breaks?
On a winter log cabin break, you can enjoy a host of incredible Arctic experiences. Here’s a sample of what you can see and do:
- Meet Arctic wildlife and learn about Sámi culture. Then go husky mushing or take a reindeer sleigh ride through the snowy taiga forest.
- Take the plunge. Dip into an icy river before warming up in your own riverside sauna.
- Experience the hush of the Arctic. Embark on a peaceful snowshoeing or cross-country skiing excursion, learning about the landscape from your local guide.
- Feel the thrill. Explore snowy scenery on a snowmobile adventure. Or make special memories on a family tobogganing trip.
- Travel by sleigh to see Santa and his elves. Children get to meet Santa and each receives a special gift.
- Journey to the Aurora Camp, out in the Arctic wilderness. Warm yourself by the fire as you stargaze and wait for the northern lights to appear.
- Relax back at your cabin, sampling hearty Finnish cuisine and experiencing traditional Finnish sauna culture.
Can I customise my snowy log cabin holiday?
Absolutely. We can tailor every Aurora Nights holiday to suit your requirements.

What should I wear in Finnish Lapland?
In winter, Finnish Lapland is cold. Temperatures rarely rise above freezing. So people dress for warmth and comfort — during the day and in the evening, too.
As part of our Finland holiday packages, we provide warm Arctic outerwear for your trip. This includes a snow jacket, thermal overalls, snow boots and Arctic gloves.
We recommend that you bring thermals, lots of layers, a warm hat, gloves and thick socks. You should also bring a winter coat for travel to and from the airport.

Superb holiday to Iceland, well organised, advice regarding trips informative and far exceeded our expectations (Glaciers and ice Cave) run by South Coast. Hotel Ranga is a lovely hotel, perfect to see Northern Lights (which we did see on our 3rd night), very comfortable, food excellent, staff helpful and informative. SouthCoast Adventure tour company were excellent, guides knowledgeable, and clearly very experienced.
Thank you for arranging a fabulous holiday, we had a really enjoyable time and would love to return in the future. Hotel Ranga is a lovely place to stay and the owner greeted guests in the restaurant, which was an unexpected welcoming touch. We didn’t see the Northern Lights due to the weather and the trip to the Eyjafjallajokull glacier and volcano was substituted by an excursion to Thorsmork, also due to the weather, which we thoroughly enjoyed; the brochure description doesn’t do it justice. We found Iceland and the people there really charismatic. Although the wind and snow cut short the amount of travelling we could do, we still covered a reasonable amount of what we wanted to see and our appetites are whetted for a return, perhaps in Spring or Summer. We found a couple of great places to eat near the Hotel in Reykjavik. Messin does tasty fish dishes and the Icelandic Street Food restaurant was excellent, offering simple but hearty soups with refills included in the price – great value.
Thoroughly enjoyed the trip. The Abisko Mountain Lodge was fantastic, every member of staff was friendly welcoming and charming. Accommodation, upgraded room was excellent. The food in the lodge definitely deserves the high reviews. Good breakfast, great hime made lunch soups and extremely tasty evening dinners.
The included trips were great. The only let down was the camera night, couldn’t see the lights no one fault, but we were walked through thigh high snow to be left on a frozen lake for the duration of the trip. There was no warning of the difficult walk and we had a 91 year old with us and I have hip problems! That said the guide was great, as were the ones on the skimobile and husky rides. We went up to the sky station in a snow storm with high winds, added to the experience!
Would go back in a heart beat.
We had little communication with Weekend a la carte, no need as all communications were clear and contained all the information we needed. Very informative emails
Would use again if going back
Fantastic trip with great hosts & made even more special by seeing the Northern Lights twice!!
We had the most fabulous time and everything worked like clockwork. The guides were extremely knowledgeable and extremely competent. The food was excellent and the experiences, especially Husky Homes, were brilliant. We saw the aurora lights at the mountain top in Abisko where the photography tour will be an enduring memory of a wonderful time. I would very much recommend Weekend a la Carte as a proficient tour operator.
I appreciate the fast response to my inquiries regarding my trip. It would take decision making faster on my part, and plan my itinerary and activities being offered by the company accordingly.
We had five fantastic days in beautiful Iceland, as we had never been before Aurora Nights helped with everything and made the holiday so easy and stress free. We stayed at Hotel Ranga which was amazing, we very much enjoyed the tours and the guides were brilliant, very knowledgable and friendly. We will certainly be returning to Iceland and wouldn’t hesitate to book through Aurora Nights again, special thanks to Abigail as her experience and reccommendations made the trip even better.
What a fantastic trip! I booked this for myself and my husband to celebrate my 40th birthday and it didn’t disappoint! Booking was simple and we were kept up to date with all the details from the office team in the UK.
From the moment we arrived at Kiruna airport all the staff we encountered were so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. We opted for the upgraded room at the Abisko Mountain Lodge which I would highly recommend. The cold weather clothing which was supplied was fantastic and kept us really warm in the sub-zero temperatures. The dog sledging, snowmobiling and the Northern Lights photography were all superb and the staff leading the trips were really friendly and so knowledgeable. Even though we weren’t able to do the sky station trip because of the weather, there was a lovely alternative evening organised for us which included a traditional dinner and a walk to the lake where we were able to see the lights. The food at the lodge was also exceptional and showcased some lovely traditional dishes using Moose and Reindeer which were wonderful to try.
I would like to send a massive thank you to all the staff at The Abisko Mountain Lodge as well as the guides we used for our guided walks, dog sledging and snowmobiling. I’d highly recommend the trip, it was our first visit to Sweden and we would definitely return. Thanks again to everyone (including the huskies) who made it so memorable!
