On the edge of Malangen Fjord, just an hour south of Tromsø, lies Malangen Resort, a retreat where Arctic wilderness and comfort come together in perfect harmony.
Malangen Resort
Surrounded by snowy peaks and still waters, this is a place where the drama of the north unfolds in every direction and where the magic of the Northern Lights in Norway can be experienced at its most vivid. Malangen Resort is more than a hotel, it is a sanctuary for travellers seeking soulful luxury, combining the thrill of Arctic adventure with the calm of a fjord-side haven.
Days at Malangen are filled with authentic experiences that immerse you in the landscape. Glide across snow-covered trails on a husky sled, trek into silent forests on snowshoes, or meet reindeer and discover Sámi culture. For those looking to explore even further, guided ski tours and ice fishing on frozen lakes bring you closer to the rhythms of life in the Arctic. As the light changes and evening falls, the attention turns skywards. With almost no light pollution, Malangen offers some of the clearest and darkest skies in northern Norway, making it an ideal base for chasing the aurora borealis. At the Wilderness Camp, a secluded spot away from the resort, you can sit by a crackling fire wrapped in blankets, sipping hot drinks as the northern lights flicker and swirl across the horizon.
Inside the resort the warmth continues, with interiors designed for comfort and relaxation. The Arctic Spa invites you to restore body and mind with a traditional sauna or an outdoor hot tub session beneath the stars. The restaurant celebrates the flavours of northern Norway with seasonal menus inspired by local produce, from coastal fish dishes to reindeer and Arctic char. Whether you dine by candlelight or watch the snow fall through wide windows overlooking the fjord, every meal reflects the surrounding landscape.
Accommodation at Malangen ranges from stylish fjord-view rooms to private cabins that frame the mountains and skies. Each option is designed to bring the outside in, so that even quiet moments spent indoors remain connected to the beauty of the fjord and the vast Arctic skies above. For those who want to blend adventure with stillness, evenings can be spent around a private bonfire, indulging in a sea sauna ritual, or simply watching the snow settle as silence descends over the fjord.
With Off The Map Travel every stay at Malangen is tailored to the individual. Some may want days full of adventure, with husky sledding, snowmobiling and reindeer encounters, while others may prefer a slower pace, combining mindful walks with spa rituals and fireside evenings. Every itinerary is designed to reflect your rhythm and your own story of the Arctic.
Luxury at Malangen is defined not by extravagance but by meaning. It is the deep breath of fresh Arctic air as you step outside on a crisp morning, the warmth of firelight after a day in the snow, the slow unfolding of an aurora across the fjord, and the sense of stillness that comes from being in tune with nature. Malangen Resort offers space to reconnect, to pause, and to witness the wild beauty of Norway in its purest form. With Aurora Nights and Off The Map Travel, Malangen becomes not just a destination, but a canvas for your own northern story, painted with fjords, peaks and the unforgettable light of the Arctic sky.

Northern lights tour reviews
We booked with Aurora for a short winter break to celebrate an event. We wanted something special and that’s what we got. Clear information was backed up with straightforward booking detail, and we had a super, holiday with no complications.
The holiday exceeded my expectations and I will use Aurora in the future. Thank you!
My wife and I had an awesome and memorable trip to Iceland thanks to Alex at Aurora Nights. Alex tailored the itinerary to exactly what we wanted to see and chose excellent hotels to stay at. We totally enjoyed the city of Reykjavik and the many beautiful waterfalls. He went above and beyond to not only recommend sights to see around the Golden Circle and Ring Road, but also mapped it out so we were prepared to drive through the country during unpredictable weather and road conditions. And we were especially pleased to see the Northern Lights on our visit. Alex was very flexible to make changes to our plans and choosing the wonderful Sky Lagoon to replace our tickets for the Blue Lagoon due to the closure from the volcanic activity. We highly recommend Alex and Aurora Nights.
An amazing trip and excellent service provided by all involved. Great value for money too. Food was excellent. Accommodation was wonderful and the trips booked were outstanding. An amazing trip
Cannot thank this company enough. Our break to Iceland was the second time we’ve let them organise everything for us and once again they didn’t disappoint. Everything ran seamlessly and the organised tours were wonderful. This company knows what they are doing. If you want to experience the geysers, the volcano, the northern lights and all the other exciting things that Iceland has to offer then this is the company to use.
