Aino Private Island Hotel is an exclusive adults-only retreat set on its own secluded island just outside Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland.
Aino Private Island

Surrounded by the calm waters of the Kemijoki river and shielded by quiet forests, it offers one of the most intimate and tranquil luxury stays in the Arctic.
Guests cross a small suspension bridge to reach the island, immediately leaving behind the noise of the mainland and stepping into a world shaped by stillness, nature and refined Nordic comfort.
A sanctuary of natural beauty
The hotel’s private-island setting creates an atmosphere of peace that is difficult to find elsewhere in Lapland. With only a select number of suites and one private villa, Aino promises space, privacy and a deep connection to the surrounding wilderness. The gentle movement of the river, the whisper of the trees and the wide Arctic skies combine to form a backdrop designed for slowing down and appreciating the beauty of the north.
Elegant Nordic accommodation
The rooms and suites at Aino Private Island Hotel are crafted to reflect the character of the landscape. Soft neutral tones, natural wood, high ceilings and large windows create spaces that feel both luxurious and restful. Options range from river-view loft suites to deluxe sky-facing rooms and a spacious three-bedroom villa. Each has its own private entrance and offers uninterrupted views of the island’s scenery.
Bathrooms are spa-inspired, featuring walk-in showers, under-floor heating and high-quality amenities. The design language throughout the hotel embraces calm, warmth and Nordic simplicity, making every space feel refined yet deeply connected to nature.
Exclusive Lapland experiences
Aino focuses on delivering experiences that encourage presence and wellbeing. Guests can enjoy traditional Finnish sauna rituals, refreshing dips in the river, peaceful forest walks or quiet hours in the hotel’s reading pavilion. Service is discreet and personalised, allowing each stay to unfold at an unhurried pace.
Dining is a highlight, with seasonal Lappish dishes prepared using local ingredients. The emphasis is on soulful, grounded cuisine rather than heavy fine-dining formality, making meals feel authentic and connected to the culture and produce of the region.
Perfect for northern lights viewing
For aurora seekers, Aino Private Island Hotel offers outstanding conditions. The island sits away from the bright lights of Rovaniemi, giving clearer skies and darker horizons. Many suites feature tall windows that frame the northern skies perfectly, allowing guests to watch the aurora borealis from the comfort of their room. The peaceful island environment makes the experience even more magical, transforming aurora viewing into a moment of stillness rather than a rushed chase.
Ideal for couples and quiet retreats
Aino is designed for adults only, making it particularly suited to couples seeking privacy and tranquillity. The small number of rooms ensures an exclusive atmosphere, while the natural surroundings invite relaxation, reflection and reconnection. It is also a strong choice for solo travellers looking for a peaceful, design-led space for rest and inspiration.
What sets Aino Private Island Hotel apart is its combination of luxury, seclusion and authenticity. Instead of loud entertainment or fast-paced activities, it offers a refined retreat shaped by silence, nature and thoughtful design. The private-island location feels truly special, the interiors are beautifully executed and the overall philosophy encourages guests to slow down and fully embrace the Arctic environment.

Northern lights tour reviews
We booked with Aurora for a short winter break to celebrate an event. We wanted something special and that’s what we got. Clear information was backed up with straightforward booking detail, and we had a super, holiday with no complications.
The holiday exceeded my expectations and I will use Aurora in the future. Thank you!
My wife and I had an awesome and memorable trip to Iceland thanks to Alex at Aurora Nights. Alex tailored the itinerary to exactly what we wanted to see and chose excellent hotels to stay at. We totally enjoyed the city of Reykjavik and the many beautiful waterfalls. He went above and beyond to not only recommend sights to see around the Golden Circle and Ring Road, but also mapped it out so we were prepared to drive through the country during unpredictable weather and road conditions. And we were especially pleased to see the Northern Lights on our visit. Alex was very flexible to make changes to our plans and choosing the wonderful Sky Lagoon to replace our tickets for the Blue Lagoon due to the closure from the volcanic activity. We highly recommend Alex and Aurora Nights.
An amazing trip and excellent service provided by all involved. Great value for money too. Food was excellent. Accommodation was wonderful and the trips booked were outstanding. An amazing trip
Cannot thank this company enough. Our break to Iceland was the second time we’ve let them organise everything for us and once again they didn’t disappoint. Everything ran seamlessly and the organised tours were wonderful. This company knows what they are doing. If you want to experience the geysers, the volcano, the northern lights and all the other exciting things that Iceland has to offer then this is the company to use.
