Dog Sledding and Northern Lights Snowshoeing
Your first full day in Tromsø promises an exciting Arctic experience, beginning with a thrilling small-group dog sledding tour. You’ll be introduced to a team of eager huskies, and you will get instructions on how to drive your dog sledding team, then you will slide into the snow-covered highlands of Kvaløya, between trees and over hills, venturing into Tromsø’s Arctic Wilderness! The afternoon is then yours to enjoy at leisure, perhaps to warm up with a hot drink, explore some of Tromsø’s city centre attractions, or simply rest.
As evening descends, prepare for a magical Northern Lights snowshoe excursion at Fjellheisen. This unique tour combines the gentle adventure of snowshoeing with the breathtaking possibility of witnessing the Aurora Borealis dancing across the night sky from a fantastic vantage point overlooking the city. Embrace your adventurous spirit and follow us out into the crisp evening air and the beauty of the Arctic mountains. Together, we will trek along snow-covered paths in search of the magical Northern Lights. If we are unlucky and we do not get to see them dance that night – the panorama of Tromsø’s shining city lights nestled into the frozen winter landscape alone will make you glad you made the trip.
We meet at the departure point in Tromsø city center. From there, a private shuttle takes us to Fjellheisen lower station. With permission to skip the queue, we can go straight up to the upper station, 421m above sea level, where our snowshoe hike begins. We will provide all the snowshoeing equipment and training you need to enjoy this active morning outside. Our experienced guide will accompany you every step of the way, ensuring fun and your safety on the trail. If the northern lights make an appearance, they will also capture an Aurora portrait for you.
After approximately 1 hour on snowshoes, we return to the upper station. Here you can savor a hot drink and sweet pastry outside while we continue to look out for the Northern Lights on the open-air panorama terrace, we will take the cable car down and a private shuttle bus will bring you back to town.

Northern lights tour reviews
We booked with Aurora for a short winter break to celebrate an event. We wanted something special and that’s what we got. Clear information was backed up with straightforward booking detail, and we had a super, holiday with no complications.
The holiday exceeded my expectations and I will use Aurora in the future. Thank you!
My wife and I had an awesome and memorable trip to Iceland thanks to Alex at Aurora Nights. Alex tailored the itinerary to exactly what we wanted to see and chose excellent hotels to stay at. We totally enjoyed the city of Reykjavik and the many beautiful waterfalls. He went above and beyond to not only recommend sights to see around the Golden Circle and Ring Road, but also mapped it out so we were prepared to drive through the country during unpredictable weather and road conditions. And we were especially pleased to see the Northern Lights on our visit. Alex was very flexible to make changes to our plans and choosing the wonderful Sky Lagoon to replace our tickets for the Blue Lagoon due to the closure from the volcanic activity. We highly recommend Alex and Aurora Nights.
An amazing trip and excellent service provided by all involved. Great value for money too. Food was excellent. Accommodation was wonderful and the trips booked were outstanding. An amazing trip
Cannot thank this company enough. Our break to Iceland was the second time we’ve let them organise everything for us and once again they didn’t disappoint. Everything ran seamlessly and the organised tours were wonderful. This company knows what they are doing. If you want to experience the geysers, the volcano, the northern lights and all the other exciting things that Iceland has to offer then this is the company to use.
