Day by Day Itinerary
Arrive at the Tree Hotel
On arrival in Lulea, Swedish Lapland, a guide will meet you and provide a transfer to the Tree Hotel. Tonight you will be staying at the famous Tre Hotel, in the wonderful Mirrorcube room. This stunning creation us suspended in the treetops, and is almost invisible with the forest blending in on the reflective sides of the mirrored cube, with views across the treetops, you are perfectly placed to see this sunset each day.
Dog Sledding Adventure
After breakfast you will head out to spend the day learning about mushing before taking your team of dogs out into the wilderness. You will get to take it in turns with your team alternating between being the musher and you, as you enjoy an exhilarating ride through this winter wonderland. After your dog sledding adventure, you will stop for lunch before heading back to the Tree Hotel for your second night.
Arctic Circle Train to the Icehotel
After breakfast you will be driven to Boden Train Station to catch the train that takes you across the Arctic Circle to Abisko. This five-hour journey takes you through one of Europe’s last great wilderness areas, as you travel past some of the most beautiful winter landscapes.
On arrival in Abisko there is a short walk to the Lodge where you will be met by Mina and Dick Johansson, your hosts, who run a really warm and friendly lodge.
This evening, enjoy the excellent cuisine at Mountain Lodge as you partake in their traditional Lappish menu which includes Reindeer, Arctic Char and Cloudberries – three of the unique ingredients to the area. The only thing that can interrupt your evening is the Aurora Call.
Abisko Mountain Lodge is in a fantastic location for Northern Lights viewing so if they are visible you may be tempted to step out the door and gaze skywards! There is also the opportunity to wander out for a night walk in one of the best locations on earth for aurora watching.
Abisko National Park is sandwiched between picturesque mountains and Lake Tornetrask, one of Sweden’s largest lakes and which freezes during winter. The team at Abisko Mountain Lodge will provide information on trails you can explore. Alternatively from mid Feb – mid March you can take the chairlift up mount Nujola to view the spectacular landscapes from 300 meters up!
In the evening you will head out on the Ultimate Aurora Photography Tour giving the perfect opportunity to learn about taking photos of the Northern Lights, and then go out chasing them. This is the perfect last chance to try and see the Aurora.
Return Home
After breakfast you will take your transfer to the airport in time for your flight home at the end of your action-packed northern lights holiday to Abisko. Alternatively, why not stay a night at the Icehotel or enjoy a city break in Stockholm?

Where You'll Stay
The Treehotel
Dreamt up on a fishing trip in Kamchatka, Russia, but part of a living Boreal forest in Swedish Lapland, this is a hotel with a difference!
The Treehotel comprises 7 unique themed Tree Rooms, created by 7 separate architects. These are the Mirrorcube, Bird’s Nest, Cabin, Blue Cone, dragon fly, UFO and 7th Room!
In addition there is a sauna and relaxation area and nearby is the Brittas Pensionat where meals are served.
The rooms are set between 4-6 meters from the ground in pine trees and rooms are accessed by either a ramp or sturdy stairs. They can house between 2 and 4 people and the larger rooms, The Dragonfly and the 7th Room, have separate bedrooms.
Every Tree Room has its own living and sleeping area and is equipped with a state of the art eco-friendly incineration toilet and water efficient hand basin, which means there is no artificial plumbing.
The emphasis is on running the hotel consistent with values of low impact on the surrounding forest and every aspect of the operation compliments this aim.
Abisko Mountain Lodge
Right in the small hamlet of Abisko, world renowned for the Northern Lights, lies a small welcoming Lodge run by our good friends Mina and Dick Johansson. Dick is one of the most qualified mountain guides in Sweden and looks after all the adventure whilst Mina can be described as a Skier, Creative CEO and ray of sunshine who lights up the Lodge.
Abisko Mountain Lodge offers genuine accommodation in an old-fashioned mountain hotel setting. The service is personal and the cuisine is centred on raw ingredients. It is accredited by the Sapmi Slow Food movement, an award which took 4 years to achieve. Chefs are dedicated slow-food addicts and produce wonderful nightly meals!
The 16 standard rooms in the low red ‘Swedish style house’ are all en-suite. Although basic they are warm and cosy. There are no televisions in the rooms as time is spent meeting guests around the bar or in the wonderful lounge area.
Additionally there are 4 new superior rooms added in early 2015. These four rooms are in a separate annexe and are used exclusively by Aurora nights.
Order a coffee or a glass of wine at the bar, read a magazine or spin a yarn about your arctic adventures and the magnificent aurora displays you have seen.
For those wanting to soothe the muscles there is also a sauna.

Northern lights tour reviews
Overall very good. Staff excellent and helpful. Accomodation basic but was what we expected. Tour guides very good (nature walks, snow mobiles, dog sleighs). Sky station disappointing as we never got to go up due to the weather and this seem to be a recurring feature. The alternative walk at night and meal was a let down as a result.Overall would recommend to others.
A well organised trip which was tailored to our specific requests. The arrangements all ran perfectly and any queries prior to the holiday were handled very quickly and professionally. The standard of accommodation and organised tours was very high. I would use this company again and recommend them.
An amazing trip and excellent service provided by all involved. Great value for money too. Food was excellent. Accommodation was wonderful and the trips booked were outstanding. An amazing trip
1. Gourmet Cabins was excellent and Johan was a friendly and knowledgeable host. The food, cabins, hot tub and sauna were brilliant.
2. Dog sledge was a fantastic experience and we were given the opportunity to drive our own sledge
3. Snow Mobile – really got off the beaten track and into the spectacular mountains
4. Saw the Northern Lights twice in two days. There is no description that can really do them justice
Thank you for arranging a fabulous holiday, we had a really enjoyable time and would love to return in the future. Hotel Ranga is a lovely place to stay and the owner greeted guests in the restaurant, which was an unexpected welcoming touch. We didn’t see the Northern Lights due to the weather and the trip to the Eyjafjallajokull glacier and volcano was substituted by an excursion to Thorsmork, also due to the weather, which we thoroughly enjoyed; the brochure description doesn’t do it justice. We found Iceland and the people there really charismatic. Although the wind and snow cut short the amount of travelling we could do, we still covered a reasonable amount of what we wanted to see and our appetites are whetted for a return, perhaps in Spring or Summer. We found a couple of great places to eat near the Hotel in Reykjavik. Messin does tasty fish dishes and the Icelandic Street Food restaurant was excellent, offering simple but hearty soups with refills included in the price – great value.
Thoroughly enjoyed the trip. The Abisko Mountain Lodge was fantastic, every member of staff was friendly welcoming and charming. Accommodation, upgraded room was excellent. The food in the lodge definitely deserves the high reviews. Good breakfast, great hime made lunch soups and extremely tasty evening dinners.
The included trips were great. The only let down was the camera night, couldn’t see the lights no one fault, but we were walked through thigh high snow to be left on a frozen lake for the duration of the trip. There was no warning of the difficult walk and we had a 91 year old with us and I have hip problems! That said the guide was great, as were the ones on the skimobile and husky rides. We went up to the sky station in a snow storm with high winds, added to the experience!
Would go back in a heart beat.
We had little communication with Weekend a la carte, no need as all communications were clear and contained all the information we needed. Very informative emails
Would use again if going back
We had the most fabulous time and everything worked like clockwork. The guides were extremely knowledgeable and extremely competent. The food was excellent and the experiences, especially Husky Homes, were brilliant. We saw the aurora lights at the mountain top in Abisko where the photography tour will be an enduring memory of a wonderful time. I would very much recommend Weekend a la Carte as a proficient tour operator.
Hotel Ranga was perfect, with amazing food. It is in the middle of nowhere, very quiet and with the weather being bad there wasn’t the possibility of leaving the hotel in the evening so mightn’t suit all for that reason. Super Jeep tour we thoroughly enjoyed with 2 lovely guides.
Hotel Borg was in the perfect location. For us, one night in Reykjavik would be ample.
Blue Lagoon was a wonderful experience only heightened by the appearance of the northern lights on our walk home from dinner. All in all we had the best holiday and we plan to return to Iceland hopefully sooner rather than later.
