Mina and Dick Johansson, your hosts, run a really warm and friendly lodge, with a restaurant serving excellent meals using local ingredients.
This evening, enjoy the excellent cuisine at Mountain Lodge. The only thing that can interrupt your evening is the call of the aurora.
Abisko Mountain Lodge is in a fantastic location for northern lights viewing. There is also the opportunity to wander out for a night walk in one of the best locations on earth for aurora watching.
Meals included: Dinner
After Breakfast take a leisurely morning to explore your surrounding and get used to your winter gear. You would have had a busy day travelling the day before so this is perfect opportunity to relax before all your upcoming adventures, however, if you wanted to do any extra activities just speak to our team.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Guided Walk in Abisko National Park
Abisko National Park is sandwiched between picturesque mountains and lake Tornetrask, one of Sweden’s largest lakes, which freezes during winter. Your guide will meet you at the lodge and give you an easy walking tour of the lower part of the park. Be sure to take your camera to photograph some of the spectacular views.
The guides will be trying to work out where the best location for the evening is and you will head there in a minivan or be taken out by snowmobile to a wooden cabin situated on the expanse of the frozen lake Tornetrask.
You will be supplied with cameras pre-set for aurora photography and spend the evening in Abisko National Park. Whether you are a pro or never taken a picture in your life, you have a great chance of going home after your northern lights holiday with some beautiful aurora photographs and memories that will last a lifetime!
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
After breakfast, your Snowmobile guide, Peter, will meet you at the Lodge and take you out for a two-hour exploration of Abisko National Park.
As Abisko National Park surrounds Abisko Mountain Lodge you don’t have to go far to get some awe-inspiring views of the frozen lake Tornetrask and the unique glacial formation of Laporten, which rises like a beacon out of the white desert! There are fewer picturesque places to snowmobile in Swedish Lapland.
Return for lunch at the Lodge and an afternoon of relaxation.
This evening, enjoy dinner at the Lodge prior to aurora hunting from one of the many vantage points at the Lodge. A relaxing way to spend the last night of your northern lights holiday in Abisko.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back home.
Alternatively, why not consider extending your northern lights holiday by adding in an extension to visit or stay at the Icehotel, or see the capital city of Stockholm.

Where You'll Stay
Abisko Mountain Lodge
Right in the small hamlet of Abisko, world renowned for the Northern Lights, lies a small welcoming Lodge run by our good friends Mina and Dick Johansson. Dick is one of the most qualified mountain guides in Sweden and looks after all the adventure whilst Mina can be described as a Skier, Creative CEO and ray of sunshine who lights up the Lodge.
Abisko Mountain Lodge offers genuine accommodation in an old-fashioned mountain hotel setting. The service is personal and the cuisine is centred on raw ingredients. It is accredited by the Sapmi Slow Food movement, an award which took 4 years to achieve. Chefs are dedicated slow-food addicts and produce wonderful nightly meals!
The 16 standard rooms in the low red ‘Swedish style house’ are all en-suite. Although basic they are warm and cosy. There are no televisions in the rooms as time is spent meeting guests around the bar or in the wonderful lounge area.
Additionally there are 4 new superior rooms added in early 2015. These four rooms are in a separate annexe and are used exclusively by Aurora nights.
Order a coffee or a glass of wine at the bar, read a magazine or spin a yarn about your arctic adventures and the magnificent aurora displays you have seen.
For those wanting to soothe the muscles there is a sauna.

Thank you for arranging a fabulous holiday, we had a really enjoyable time and would love to return in the future. Hotel Ranga is a lovely place to stay and the owner greeted guests in the restaurant, which was an unexpected welcoming touch. We didn’t see the Northern Lights due to the weather and the trip to the Eyjafjallajokull glacier and volcano was substituted by an excursion to Thorsmork, also due to the weather, which we thoroughly enjoyed; the brochure description doesn’t do it justice. We found Iceland and the people there really charismatic. Although the wind and snow cut short the amount of travelling we could do, we still covered a reasonable amount of what we wanted to see and our appetites are whetted for a return, perhaps in Spring or Summer. We found a couple of great places to eat near the Hotel in Reykjavik. Messin does tasty fish dishes and the Icelandic Street Food restaurant was excellent, offering simple but hearty soups with refills included in the price – great value.
We had the most fabulous time and everything worked like clockwork. The guides were extremely knowledgeable and extremely competent. The food was excellent and the experiences, especially Husky Homes, were brilliant. We saw the aurora lights at the mountain top in Abisko where the photography tour will be an enduring memory of a wonderful time. I would very much recommend Weekend a la Carte as a proficient tour operator.
I found Aurora nights just through a google search. Alex, my Aurora expert was so helpful in helping us have the perfect trip to the Arctic. He had personal experience of the activities and places to visit there that would make our trip really special. This followed through to a particularly unforgettable and wonderful holiday. Everything was sent to us with care and attention before hand and we were supported by the team throughout our holiday. All of the recomendations were wonderful especially the Ice Hotel, dog sledding and of course the beautiful Northern Lights. The transportation arrived on time every time. I would highly recomend this company for their experience in the field and their due care and attention to you as a customer. It was faultless and we had the most awesome time.
This was a bucket list trip. The company are specialists and I’ve valued their advice. Everything from the when to go for the best opportunity to see the lights and equipment needed and provided. Our activities included, the Ice Hotel, night photo shoot, snowmobiling, guided walk and the sky station meal. All excellent and well run by knowledgeable experts and guides. The Abisko Lodge is warm comfortable and relaxing the food is excellent and the staff welcoming, friendly and very helpful. I would highly recommend if you’re looking for a different and exciting experience.
We have never before experienced such friendly and simultaneously professional service! Alex’s communication was super prompt, questions encouraged and welcomed and attended to with great care and detail. Everything was well organised and available on beautifully designed and very useful platforms. Our destination (Mattarahkka Northern Lights Lodge) was fabulous on so many different levels – exquisite views, friendly interactions from everyone on the team, great food, exciting activities, perfectly situated to see the northern lights (seen twice in 4 nights’ stay), a great fire place, and not to mention our fantastic guide Fabio. Their provision of winter kit (hats, down jacket, snow trousers, leather gloves and boots) offered everything we needed to be comfortable outside. All we needed to have packed really were base layers, a few layers of clothing and woollen socks. Defintely somewhere we would highly recommend and return to when possible!
We enjoyed both the hotels that were arranged by weekend a la Carte Aurora nights. The Porsmork trip was very enjoyable, both guides were fantastic and informative.
The Northern Light hunt trip out of Reykjavik with Superjeep was an adventure and we got to see the lights, worth braving the cold at -6.
We had a wonderful time! The food at the lodge was amazing and there were some great vegetarian dishes. I had the best beetroot I’ve ever had (beetroot tartare).
Everyone was really friendly and all the guides were good fun and very knowledgeable.
A special thanks to William and Petri who were really friendly and really added a personal touch to our trip. The activities were really well planned and we especially enjoyed the trip with the huskies. The area we were in is stunning and the lodge was very nice. We would definitely recommend this to friends and family.
An amazing trip and excellent service provided by all involved. Great value for money too. Food was excellent. Accommodation was wonderful and the trips booked were outstanding. An amazing trip
