Where You'll Stay
Skýra Retreat
On the tranquil shores of Lake Norvajärvi, where the ancient forests of Finnish Lapland meet the mirrored surface of the Arctic waters, sits Skýra Retreat. Located just twenty kilometres from the bustle of Rovaniemi, this is a destination of quiet intent, where the “raw luxury” philosophy invites you to shed the weight of the modern world and return to a simpler, more meaningful rhythm.
A Heritage Reimagined
At the soul of Skýra lies a beautifully restored 1950s village schoolhouse, its timber walls whispering stories of a bygone era. The retreat is an intimate collection of just fifteen rooms, each a thoughtful dialogue between Nordic heritage and contemporary elegance.
The accommodation offers three distinct ways to experience the Arctic:
-
The Grande Suites: Nestled within the historic schoolhouse, these expansive sanctuaries feature hand-restored seventy year old log walls, freestanding bathtubs, and private saunas. For a touch of spontaneous indulgence, a dedicated champagne button ensures a glass of chilled prestige is never more than a moment away.
-
Log Suites: These handcrafted villas are designed for total immersion. With floor to ceiling windows rising six metres high, the forest becomes your living wallpaper. Each suite features a fireplace lounge and a private loft space, curated with yoga equipment and a collection of Penguin Books for slow, reflective afternoons.
-
The Private Lakeside Villa: A secluded haven for those seeking ultimate privacy, offering direct access to the lake and its own ice hole for the most authentic of Nordic rituals.
The Ritual of Wellness
Wellness at Skýra is not a scheduled appointment but a way of being. Every stay includes unlimited access to the Skýra Nordic Spa, an open air sanctuary built around the Finnish thermal cycle of heat, cold, and rest.
Guests are invited to join a daily rhythm of restorative rituals:
-
Morning Yoga Flow: Conducted in the serene light of the Old Schoolhouse to gently awaken the senses.
-
Folklore Sauna Ritual: A deep cultural immersion where a sauna host guides you through ancient incantations and the traditional art of birch whisking.
-
Forest Bathing: A mindful journey through the surrounding pines, designed to heighten your awareness of the Arctic’s subtle energies.
A Culinary Homecoming
Dining at Skýra is a celebration of “Arctic Purity.” The kitchen operates on a zero waste philosophy, sourcing ingredients from the local landscape and regional producers. Mornings begin with a table served Nordic breakfast, while afternoons are defined by the comforting Finnish tradition of pullakahvit—freshly baked pastries and coffee shared in a warm, communal atmosphere. As evening falls, the dining room transforms for a curated three course menu that showcases the honest, seasonal flavours of the North.
Tailored Arctic Adventures
While the retreat encourages the art of slowing down, the vast wilderness of Norvajärvi remains at your doorstep. Through trusted local partners, Skýra curates bespoke expeditions that respect the fragile beauty of the environment. Whether it is an electric snowmobile safari through silent forests, an authentic encounter at a reindeer farm, or a private quest to witness the Northern Lights, every experience is handled with the same quiet expertise that defines the retreat.
Skýra Retreat is more than a hotel; it is a gentle homecoming. It is a place where time once again becomes yours, framed by the crackle of a fire, the heat of the sauna, and the endless, star dusted sky of the Arctic.

Its signature glass-fronted apartments transform the surrounding wilderness into a living panorama, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the Arctic world from the warmth of their own private space.
Striking Arctic-inspired design
Inspired by the traditional Sámi kota hut, the architecture at Glass Resort blends familiar Nordic shapes with sleek, modern interpretation. The large glass walls and high ceilings create a feeling of openness while framing the ever-changing light of the Arctic environment. Every apartment includes a private sauna and an outdoor hot-spring style hot tub, offering guests the rare pleasure of relaxing in warm water while surrounded by the deep quiet of Lapland’s winter nights.
The elevated windows and glass ceilings provide effortless aurora viewing. Guests can lie back on their bed or settle into the lounge and watch the northern lights unfold directly overhead. This unique indoor perspective makes Glass Resort one of the most comfortable and atmospheric aurora destinations in the region.
A blend of tranquillity and attentive service
Glass Resort is known for its welcoming, personalised service, offering guests a sense of warmth and care from the moment they arrive. The resort focuses on subtle touches that make a stay memorable, from thoughtful room details to attentive assistance with activities and local recommendations. Its on-site restaurant enhances the experience further by serving refined Lappish cuisine made from regional ingredients, turning each meal into a celebration of the tastes and traditions of northern Finland.
Perfect for northern lights holidays
For those intending to witness the aurora borealis, Glass Resort offers an ideal combination of design and location. The glass architecture maximises sky-visibility, while the resort’s placement away from the brighter lights of Rovaniemi enhances the clarity of nighttime skies. The resort’s wellness features also transform aurora watching into a calming ritual, as guests move from their private sauna to their outdoor jacuzzi while the Arctic night glows above.
Easy access without sacrificing serenity

Close to the attractions of Santa Claus Village and within simple reach of Rovaniemi’s airport, it is exceptionally well positioned for winter holidays, short break escapes and longer aurora-focused stays. Northern lights tour reviews
We booked with Aurora for a short winter break to celebrate an event. We wanted something special and that’s what we got. Clear information was backed up with straightforward booking detail, and we had a super, holiday with no complications.
The holiday exceeded my expectations and I will use Aurora in the future. Thank you!
My wife and I had an awesome and memorable trip to Iceland thanks to Alex at Aurora Nights. Alex tailored the itinerary to exactly what we wanted to see and chose excellent hotels to stay at. We totally enjoyed the city of Reykjavik and the many beautiful waterfalls. He went above and beyond to not only recommend sights to see around the Golden Circle and Ring Road, but also mapped it out so we were prepared to drive through the country during unpredictable weather and road conditions. And we were especially pleased to see the Northern Lights on our visit. Alex was very flexible to make changes to our plans and choosing the wonderful Sky Lagoon to replace our tickets for the Blue Lagoon due to the closure from the volcanic activity. We highly recommend Alex and Aurora Nights.
An amazing trip and excellent service provided by all involved. Great value for money too. Food was excellent. Accommodation was wonderful and the trips booked were outstanding. An amazing trip
Cannot thank this company enough. Our break to Iceland was the second time we’ve let them organise everything for us and once again they didn’t disappoint. Everything ran seamlessly and the organised tours were wonderful. This company knows what they are doing. If you want to experience the geysers, the volcano, the northern lights and all the other exciting things that Iceland has to offer then this is the company to use.
