Since those humble days Mikko now runs one of the only all year round experience businesses in the Arctic. During the Winter he runs the boutique Máttaráhkká Northern Lights Lodge and provides our clients with fantastic snowmobile tours and Northern Lights activities. In the summer he runs a heli fishing enterprise taking clients to remote lakes and rivers in search of trophy sized arctic char, trout and grayling. Finally in winter he offers hunting trips with his dogs walking the beautiful terrain searching for the prized ptarmigan (grouse).

He has very little time for life outside of work but he is an avid, and seriously good fisherman, (he always seems to catch the biggest fish), and loves training his gun dogs.

Máttaráhkká Northern Lights Lodge is integrated into many of our breaks as we love the ‘home away from home’ feel that it conveys, and the relaxed and informal environment that has been created. Its definitely a place to kick off your shoes after an arctic experience crack open a beer or pour a glass of wine, sit by the fire and read a book!

By the winter of 2020, Mikko will have added the deluxe “Room with a view” to Máttaráhkká Northern Lights Lodge which has its own private outdoor hut tub, and large windows overlooking endless vistas towards the Abisko Alps. This will be the room to stay in for anyone wanting an amazing Northern Lights experience.

Mikko and his assistant Bjorn make a great team and a day out in the wilderness with either of them is a lot of fun.

If you wish to stay at Máttaráhkká Northern Lights Lodge then take a look at our Northern Lights Special, Aurora Grand Slam, Complete Arctic Experience or our VIP Ice Hotel Break for suggestions.
